The obstacles and limitations faced by non-driving and reduced-driving seniors is not only limited to cities, but suburbs, and rural areas as well.
Unfortunately, this article is right-we are way behind the curve in terms of meeting the needs of non-driving seniors.
The saddest part?
1-we knew this was coming, statistical data has been predicting a significantly older society for 30-60 years, and
2-what about the needs of all the other non-driving portions of the population? Like children and those who cannot afford private transportation? Our aging society sheds a light on how we have designed for the able-bodied and the able-funded. That’s why Universal Design and Multigenerational approaches are the next big wave in our society: they are enabling and inclusive; they are democratizing. Thank goodness!
