Senior-Focused Emergency Center at Holy Cross Hospital
Dr. Bill Thomas, founder of Eden Alternative and The Green House Project, invited Esther to consult on the nation’s first senior-focused emergency center at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. Esther’s primary purpose was to create a paradigm shift among senior staff: to see the power of the hospital environment to disable or enable. Her work with the team led to an assessment and set of recommendations for use by the design team.
Advisor to 100 acre full-service senior housing campus. Projects included: guidance on redesign of existing wing; in-service trainings for staff regarding built environment + physiological needs of residents; resident focus groups; assessments of units; recommendations for enabling modifications; developing design standards.
